Stiletto, Vygon‘s new generation of extended‑dwell catheters integrating SlipStream technology, has received approval for commercialisation from the federal institution Health Canada.
This approval supports Vygon’s plans to accelerate its growth in North America, the company shares in a press release. Vygon has also appointed Nipro Canada as a distributor for the entire country.
Vygon explains that the Stiletto extended-dwell catheter (EDC) is a sterile, single-use medical device designed to allow healthcare professionals to sample blood and/or administer fluids over a short duration (<28 days) through a peripherally inserted catheter.
Stiletto’s patented insertion system, SlipStream, replaces the traditional Seldinger technique for EDCs. By eliminating guidewires and reducing procedural steps, Vygon notes that SlipStream offers clinicians a “simpler, safer and more intuitive technique”, while delivering significant clinical benefits for patients.
A press release details that Stiletto is Vygon’s first entry into the extended-dwell catheter market. The company’s vascular access portfolio also includes standard midlines, peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) lines, central venous catheters (CVC), implantable ports, and neonatal and paediatric vascular access devices.
Vygon will be showcasing Stiletto at the 40th annual Association for Vascular Access (AVA) scientific meeting (2–4 October, Grapevine, USA). The company also plans on attending many local AVA chapter meetings.
