Inquis Medical has announced the US commercial launch of its latest Aventus catheter, which is designed to provide physicians with 360-degree sweeping directional aspiration for clot removal within the vasculature. Austin Bourgeois performed the first-in-human pulmonary embolism (PE) procedure using the new catheter at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, USA.

A company press release details that Aventus is the first and only thrombectomy system to offer physicians 360-degree directional aspiration, real-time TrueClot tissue sensing, and autologous blood return in a single platform.

Inquis Medical received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for the Aventus thrombectomy system to treat PE in June 2025 and expanded the platform with 510(k) clearance for the newest Aventus catheter in July 2026.

“The latest Aventus catheter brings a new level of control to navigating the complex anatomy of the pulmonary vasculature,” said Bourgeois. “The system made it easy to direct the aspiration tip toward the clot, while tissue sensing helped me distinguish clot from vessel wall. These features together made clot removal more targeted and efficient, and I was able to move through the branches of the pulmonary arteries with agility. In my first case with the new Aventus catheter, I saw firsthand the precise control it offers, which is exactly what we need in challenging PE cases with complex anatomy.”

Inquis Medical adds that the catheter pairs with the recently launched Aventus introducer sheath, which provides controlled haemostasis across device sizes and facilitates blood return.

Vahid and Mojgan Saadat, Inquis Medical’s co-CEOs, added in a joint statement: “The commercial launch of the Aventus catheter expands our purpose-built VTE [venous thromboembolism] portfolio, reinforcing our commitment to physician-centric technologies that streamline complex procedures and elevate patient care.”
