Eric Secemsky (Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, USA) is joined by Ulf Teichgräber (Jena University Hospital, Jena, Germany) in the CX Studio at the 2026 CX Symposium after the latter’s presentation of 36-month results from the SIRONA randomised controlled trial (RCT) comparing sirolimus- vs paclitaxel-coated balloon for the treatment of femoropopliteal disease. Teichgräber tells Secemsky how the non-inferiority RCT was designed, how the MagicTouch PTA sirolimus-coated balloon (Concept Medical) compared against paclitaxel-coated balloons, and how the three-year data could change this area of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) treatment. “Are people going to switch from paclitaxel to limus [therapy] based on that data?” asks Secemsky. “You just showed that limus DCB [drug-coated balloon]—MagicTouch—is superior to paclitaxel.”
