Jamal Jawad Hoballah (American University of Beruit, Beruit, Lebanon) speaks to Vascular News on the sidelines of the 2026 Vascular Annual Meeting (VAM) about new research looking at the cost effectiveness of endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) versus open repair in the treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) in developing countries, and how this compares to practice in developed countries. A mixed pciture emerged, explains Hoballah—who presented study data during a World Federation of Vascular Societies (WFVS) session on behalf of the Pan Arab Vascular Surgical Society (PAVSS)—and “each country has to balance the cost and effectiveness within their own budgets and figure things out”.
