Roberto Chiesa (Milan, Italy), who was at the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Lombardy region of Italy, shares his team’s experience in tackling vascular and aortic emergencies during this time.
Chiesa outlines the response in the region to the pandemic, including the creation of new intensive care units (ICUs) before discussing two aortic emergency cases at his centre. He concludes by noting the importance of having centralised hubs for vascular emergency treatment and highlighting that there has been no increased prevalence of aortic emergencies but a higher level of acute limb ischaemia.
Commenting on the presentation, Roger Greenhalgh (London, UK), talks to Chiesa about the latter’s “extraordinary experience”, and congratulates him on his “leadership” and education during this time.
