Vascular Flow appoints Jonathan Sackier to the company’s board

Jonathan M Sackier has joined Vascular Flow Technologies as a non-executive board member. Sackier is an internationally recognised surgeon, business consultant and media contributor.

Vascular Flow Technologies (VF)is a medical devices company focused on the research, development and commercialisation of vascular devices based on a new understanding of blood flow dynamics – Spiral Laminar Flow. The company is based in Dundee, US, and has a division in Boston, USA. The company’s technology is currently applied to two synthetic vascular grafts, the SLF PV graft and SLF AV graft.

“Sackier was appointed to the board of VF on 3 April 2013 and will bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and drive to the company. He trained in the UK as a surgeon then moved to the USA where he helped lead the laparoscopic surgery revolution and founded the Washington Institute of Surgical Endoscopy,” the company informed in a press release.

Sackier is visiting professor of Surgery and Medicine at the University of Virginia and his activities in research, funded by multiple grants, have led to many publications, chapters and books. He has served journals in editorial or reviewer functions, been involved in medical societies at the highest level and been honoured for his work in many countries.

Sackier’s collaborations with the pharmaceutical and medical device industry have led to multiple technologies coming to market. He has acted as a consultant to healthcare companies, participated in raising capital and has enjoyed a range of corporate governance experiences. He currently sits on a number of boards in various roles.

A frequent commentator in the media, Sackier has been a guest on radio and television many times and is an ardent patient advocate and supporter of liberating innovation.

He serves as medical counsel to the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association (AOPA) and authors the monthly “Fly Well” column in AOPA Pilot magazine. He is also a keen pilot and enjoys the challenge and discipline of high speed flight.
