Dr Robert A Lookstein, Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York, USA, updated the data from the PEARL Registry (Peripheral Use of Angiojet Rheolytic Thrombectomy with Mid Length Catheters). Currently 31 clinical sites are enrolling patients to be treated with the device from Possis -343 have been enrolled as of 31 December 2008.
Of the 343 patients, 124 have been treated for deep venous thrombosis. The mean age is 52.3 years, 73 (63%) are male and 51 (37%) female. Three-month follow-up was completed in 84 (68%) out of these 124. The results showed that 66 (79%) had an improved status since the procedure and five (6%) required unplanned re-intervention on the target vessels previously treated.
