Nicky James, a 15-year veteran of Cook Medical, has been named vice president and global leader of Cook’s Aortic Intervention clinical division. Phil Nowell, who has held that position for five years, will return to his native Australia after nine years in the United States. He will take on a new role with the company building resources and systems to further enable Cook’s rapid growth in the Asia-Pacific region.

The transition will occur over several months. James, currently vice president of global sales for Cook’s Peripheral Intervention division, will fully assume her new role by January of 2014.

“Phil has stayed in the United States long past his original intent and we are very thankful for his dedication and commitment. He has done a superb job of leading the Aortic Intervention division through periods of rapid growth and globalization,” said Pete Yonkman, executive vice president, Cook Medical. “In his heart, however, Phil’s always wanted to go home to Australia, and this transition allows him to continue to provide insight and strategy for Cook in a critical region. Nicky’s depth of experience, passion for working with physicians and patients and unique ability to lead people will make this a fun transition to be involved in.”

During her Cook career with the Urology and Peripheral Intervention divisions, James has worked in sales management, product management and SBU leadership. That experience has given her extensive knowledge of Cook products and people.

“I am very grateful that Cook has given me the opportunity to serve in many different ways, and I’m excited to be taking on this new challenge,” said James. “There are many promising developments ahead for the Aortic Intervention division, and I hope to build on the success of my predecessors to ensure our continued growth and success.”
