In a live case transmitted from The Heart Center Leipzig/Park Hospital in Leipzig, Germany, a new drug-eluting balloon was used as part of a clinical trial during one of the live case demonstrations at the ISET 2009, USA, in January. Advance PTX (Cook Medical) is designed to increase long-term patency in patients with peripheral arterial disease and is one of the first PTA balloon catheters to be coated with paclitaxel, an antiproliferative drug that has been used successfully to reduce the risk of arterial restenosis following angioplasty in coronary disease patients.
