Biotronik has expanded its line of reinforced introducer sheaths. According to the company, the expansion maintains the flexibility and stability of the 4F compatible Fortress introducer sheath model, which is now available in 5F and 6F.

“Essential functions of a sheath introducer are to allow me the flexibility to manoeuvre through complex vascular anatomy, while maintaining stability to prevent any complications inserting and removing balloon catheters and stents,” says Flavio Airoldi, MultiMedica Hospital, Milan, Italy.

The Fortress introducer sheaths are reinforced with a resilient and flexible stainless steel coil which provides a maximum degree of flexibility and stability to introduce a balloon catheter or self-expanding stent to treat diseased arteries. The coil simultaneously provides reinforcement to prevent kinks that can occur in the shaft during such procedures.

The 5F and 6F versions of the Fortress also retain a lubricious hydrophobic coating and smooth tapered tip design, making them easier to insert, and have been demonstrated to limit potential complications at the injection site.

“Rigorous internal benchmark testing has revealed the Fortress introducer sheath offers as best in class insertion performance, along with unparalleled kink resistance and stability,” says Alexander Uhl, vice president marketing, Vascular Intervention at Biotronik. “We pride ourselves on providing physicians with a broad array of solutions for each patient, and the new 5F and 6F options are vital additions to our growing portfolio of vascular intervention solutions, which includes our trusted peripheral portfolio of Passeo balloons and Pulsar stents.”

The new Fortress series is now available in CE accepting countries.
