Optimal management of vascular wounds: Patient-specific decisions and multidisciplinary care are key

2861

Vincent Rowe (University of California Los Angeles, Los Angeles, USA) speaks to Vascular News at VIVA 2023 (30 October–2 November, Las Vegas, USA) on the importance of patient-specific decisions for the management of vascular wounds.

He also considers how multidisciplinary care plays into optimal treatment for this patient group, remarking that the approach makes a difference in terms of saving limbs and is “gaining popularity”. Things are not always straightforward, however. “Ego, logistics, and sometimes even money can all be barriers to having a successful programme for these patients,” Rowe remarks. He also highlights some key unanswered questions in the field, specifying the need to improve vascular wound education for both patients and care providers.

These challenges aside, Rowe ends on a positive note, indicating that once vascular wound patients make it into the care pathway, “we are very good at using all the resources of the different specialties to manage them”.
