“When you save a limb, you save a life” Marianne Brodmann (Graz, Austria) tells CX Live. There are many people who never get seen by a vascular specialist as often there is not a great deal of knowledge among general practitioners around the risks of diabetes and chronic limb-threatening ischaemia. This is ultimately leading to major amputation, Brodmann notes, before concluding that while it is “very important to reach out to patients in the right way” it is also vital to educate colleagues around the world that “if a patient has rest pain, and diabetes, and a wound, that this person must be seen by a vascular specialist”.
