Ahmed Eleshra (Mansoura University, Mansoura, Egypt) and Sherif Elkerdawi (Wadi Elneel Hospital، Cairo, Egypt) write together about the upcoming Egyptian Vascular and Endovascular Society (EVES) 2024 Summit (30 October–1 November, Cairo, Egypt), touching on the state of vascular surgery in Egypt, the main goals of organising a unified congress, and three forums that promise to be highlights of the meeting’s programme.

The EVES proudly stands as the leading and exclusive authority on vascular surgery within Egypt. Recognised by the Egyptian Medical Association and the Egyptian Health Council, EVES epitomises unparalleled excellence in vascular and endovascular care. This esteemed position highlights EVES’s critical role in advancing the field, shaping health policy, and pioneering innovative research and clinical practices. EVES sets the highest standards of medical expertise and professionalism, reflecting its profound impact on patient outcomes and its dedication to fostering collaboration among top specialists in the region.

Uniting forces: The EVES has launched a call for a unified vascular surgery congress in Egypt

The EVES 2024 Summit, organised by the society, will unfold from 30 October–1 November at the renowned InterContinental Citystars Cairo hotel in Cairo, Egypt. This premier event signifies the zenith of collaboration within Egypt’s academic and scientific communities, showcasing a unified commitment to addressing the complex challenges of vascular care. This commitment is highlighted by an extraordinary alliance with Egypt’s foremost scientific organisations; Intervention Master Aortic Course (IMAC), Diabetic Foot Course of Advanced Wound Management and Revascularization (DF Care), the Alexandria Vascular Hospital (AVC), the Egyptian African Venous and Lymphatic Association (EAVLA) and the African Federation of Angiology and Vascular Surgery (AFAVS).

The field of vascular surgery in Egypt has witnessed significant advancements in recent years, driven by ground-breaking research, innovative techniques, and collaborative efforts. In Egypt, a country with a rich history in medical sciences, the vascular surgery community has played a pivotal role in improving patient care and advancing the field. To further strengthen this community and foster collaboration, there was a compelling need for the biggest vascular surgery societies in Egypt to join forces to establish a unified congress. The benefits of such a unified congress are that, firstly, it would provide a unique platform for vascular surgeons from across Egypt to share their knowledge, experiences, and research findings. This would facilitate the dissemination of best practices, promote innovation, and contribute to the overall advancement of the field. Secondly, strengthening professional networks by bringing together vascular surgeons from different institutions would encourage collaboration on research projects, patient care initiatives, and educational programmes. Thirdly, it would improve patient care by raising public awareness about the conditions it treats. This would help to expand access to care for patients and ensure that they receive the highest quality treatment. Fourthly, gaining international recognition as such a unified congress would showcase Egypt’s expertise in vascular surgery to the international community. This could attract foreign researchers, clinicians, and patients, contributing to the country’s reputation as a leading medical destination in the region.

The key objectives for organising a unified congress are:

  • Collaboration and consensus: The success of a unified congress would depend on the collaboration and consensus among the participating societies. It is essential to establish a clear vision, shared goals, and a collaborative governance structure.
Comprehensive programme: The congress offers a diverse and comprehensive programme that caters to the interests of vascular surgeons at all stages of their careers. This could include live case transmission, plenary sessions, workshops, poster presentations, and hands-on training sessions.
International participation: To maximise the impact of the congress, it is important to attract international speakers, attendees, and exhibitors. This could be achieved through strategic partnerships with international organisations and societies.

Furthermore, EVES is excited to host three vital public forums during the EVES 2024 Summit, each designed to address critical aspects of vascular health and foster impactful dialogue. On 30 October 2024, the Women’s Vascular Health Forum will be held under the patronage of the Minister of Social Solidarity. It will focus on enhancing awareness of women’s vascular health, emphasising prevention and treatment strategies for conditions such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) with pregnancy and vascular diseases in women. It aims to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, discuss policy development, and share recent research to improve healthcare outcomes for women.

The Galician Health Council and Egyptian Health Forum on 31 October 2024, under the patronage of the Ministry of Health and Population, will bring together leading experts, policymakers, and business leaders to showcase vascular medicine expertise, foster international cooperation, and explore how modern technologies can enhance Egypt’s health system. Discussions will centre on integrating innovations to improve public health outcomes and establishing future collaborations between Egypt and Spain.

Lastly, the Vascular Surgery Partners Forum on 1 November 2024 will be held under the patronage of the Unified Procurement Authority (UPA) and is set to address key challenges faced by vascular surgeons, including technical, professional, and supplier-related issues. It will foster collaboration between surgeons, the UPA, and suppliers to ensure timely access to high-quality medical equipment, discuss current procurement policies, and propose solutions to enhance efficiency and improve supplier relationships.

The EVES 2024 summit is also proud to announce its accreditation of 22.5 European continuing medical education (CME) credits, awarded by the prestigious European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME).

In conclusion, the EVES 2024 Summit in Egypt will be a significant milestone for the field and will have a lasting impact on the quality of patient care. By joining forces, the biggest vascular surgery societies in Egypt can create a platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and innovation. It is a leap forward that can help to shape the future of vascular surgery in the country and beyond. Attending the EVES 2024 Summit in Cairo offers a unique blend of historic grandeur and modern vibrancy. With great enthusiasm, EVES extends a heartfelt invitation to all vascular and endovascular specialists to join us at the EVES 2024 Summit, from 30 October–1 November in vibrant Cairo. It promises to be an extraordinary gathering of leading experts and innovators in our field, offering invaluable opportunities for professional growth and collaboration.
