AV Medical Technologies has received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its Chameleon angioplasty balloon catheter.
Chameleon’s proximal injection port (PIP) technology is designed to allow for simultaneous balloon inflation and intravascular injection of fluids whilst maintaining guidewire access. According to AV medical, PIP technology incorporates proprietary catheter construction, which allows for targeted fluid delivery.
Anthony Verstandig, who led the first clinical trial and is Director of Interventional Radiology at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, says, “The proximal injection of fluids provides important clinical advantages over standard balloon catheter. Injecting contrast without removing the guidewire, as well as the ability to opacify vessels both downstream and upstream against the flow of blood reduces exchanges and results in a safer and more efficient procedure.”
