Palma Shaw (Syracuse, USA) discusses how the World Federation of Vascular Societies (WFVS) collaborates to determine what the key needs for trainees and education across the world are. “We bring global vascular societies together and engage in projects in a collaborative way, such as the Japanese distal bypass competition”, notes Shaw, the WFVS’ current secretary-general.

“Additionally, we are trying to set up various initiatives through a global companionship programme and we are working to bring physicians together from different parts of the world where there are no vascular surgeons, so that they can get trained and then get support,” Shaw said.
