Veryan Medical set up a direct sales operation in Germany through which it will sell its BioMimics 3D peripheral self-expanding stent system.

Chas Taylor, Veryan chief executive officer commented, “We are very excited at this significant step forward in the commercialisation of BioMimics 3D. The direct sales team will enable prompt and efficient access to BioMimics 3D for German hospitals. Sales in countries other than Germany will be handled by individually chosen, country-specific distributor companies and we look forward to working with each of these organisations to widen access to this unique device.”

The BioMimics 3D nitinol stent has unique helical shape which imparts natural curvature to the diseased artery, promoting swirling flow and elevated wall shear stress, which has a protective effect on the endothelium. The helical geometry of the BioMimics 3D femoropopliteal stent is also designed to enable the stented segment to shorten during knee flexion thereby mitigating the risk of stented segment compression causing localised strains that in a straight stent may lead to stent fracture and chronic vascular injury.

Kaplan Meier survival estimate of freedom from loss of primary patency through two years was significantly better for BioMimics 3D compared to the straight control stent (p
