Speaking to CX Live, Eric Secemsky (Boston, USA) delves into the emerging use of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) in the peripheral procedural phases—outlining contemporary studies providing evidence of its benefit, such as the reduction of restenosis risk when IVUS is employed during femoral popliteal artery revascularisation.

Referencing a consensus document to be published in the coming months, Secemsky notes the “unanimous approval” IVUS has received for “most” procedural phases. Moving forward, he states that the focus is on streamlining IVUS use in peripheral procedures and use the subsequent images to make “meaningful decisions”.
