The Charing Cross Symposium (5—8 April 2014, Grand Hall Olympia, London, UK) will feature three full days of peripheral arterial disease management topics this year. The programme dedicated to lower limb intervention will start with the peripheral arterial day in the Main Programme on Saturday and continue with the LINC @ CX peripheral intervention programme on Sunday and the CX ilegx Collaboration Day on Monday.
In the peripheral arterial Main Programme, one of the highlights will be the discussions around the role of drug-eluting balloons in the superficial femoral artery, and delegates will hear the latest available data from the IN.PACT SFA, ILLUMENATE and LEVANT 2 trials.
The discussion will also shed light on the role of drug-eluting stents with the presentation of the Zilver PTX four-year results, and on the “leave nothing behind” possibility offered by bioresorbable scaffolds. The superficial femoral artery session will also focus on results achieved with the addition of atherectomy to drug-eluting balloons in the DEFINITIVE AR trial.
In terms of new technologies, delegates will hear about a new approach to superficial femoral artery reconstruction using over-the-wire sutureless distal anastomosis. The technique will be presented by Jean Bismuth, Houston, USA. The results of BASIL 2 comparing endovascular vs. bypass below the knee will also be presented.
On Monday, the CX ilegx Collaboration Day will focus on interdisciplinary approach to save lower limbs, with an emphasis on early revascularisation and diabetic wound care. This year, the course will again include Endovascular Electronic Education sessions with live broadcast to the Far East and North America. In the afternoon, delegates will be able to attend a roundtable on drug-eluting balloons for the superficial femoral artery where data from the latest technologies will be presented and discussed by experts.
During the conference, themed “Vascular & Endovascular Consensus Update” following the cycle of Challenges, Controversies and Consensus,a world-class faculty will review and systematically discuss vascular and endovascular intervention to reach consensus in five major areas—peripheral arterial, carotid, abdominal aortic, thoracic, and venous disease—with an emphasis on the importance of high-quality imaging.
This year, the Charing Cross Symposium will be held for the first time at the Grand Hall and will feature a separate, self-contained Main Auditorium with enhanced audiovisual facilities.
